BOMBA's Programs

Registration Site Opening
Wednesday, February 01, 2012

Welcome to the Byron Optimist Minor Baseball Association (BOMBA) website.  This site provides registration information, tournament information, dates of meetings, team information, news and more. If there is something that you would like to see on our site, please let us know.

We are a community based organization, run by volunteers, that provides the opportunity for children and youth in the Byron and area community to play baseball or fastball at both house league and competitive levels. We offer the Learn to Play programs Blastball, Teeball and Rookieball as well as programs in all divisions, from Mite to Intermediate in Fastball, and Mosquito to Senior in Baseball.

Our Learn to Play programs include Blastball, Teeball, and Rookieball. These programs provide our youngest players with fun and friendship, exercise, and a pathway to learn and practice the basic skills of catching, throwing, hitting and running that are needed to "Play Ball". These teams start their seasons at the end of May and finish by early August. They usually play all their games in Byron, at a set location, on a set day and at a set start and finish time.*

*(may be variable in Rookieball)

Our House League programs run from mid-May to mid-August and usually includes one game and one practice per week plus one or two weekend tournaments throughout the season. Most of our House League teams play in the Community Softball League (CSL) or the London District Baseball Association (LDBA). As an added bonus, our Byron teams play for free in Byron House League tournaments.

Our Competitive programs run from early May to late-August and typically includes two games and one practice per week. Many of our Competitive teams also compete in weekend tournaments throughout the summer. Our Competitive teams are affiliated with  the Tri-County Girls Fastball League (TGFL), and the London District Baseball Association (LDBA). As an added bonus, Byron teams play for free in Byron Competitive tournaments.

Competitive Registration:

Again this year, under the London District Baseball Association, some of the competitive Rookieball and Baseball programs of the Byron Optimist Minor Baseball Association and the Oakridge Optimist Baseball Association remain merged.  "A player wishing to play competitive baseball in the LDBA must register with his/her home association prior to March 15, 2012.  Failure to register with the home association before March 15 would mean that said player would be allowed to only play house league." "LDBA has no release policy--- players MUST register with their home association."

Changes:

Anne Lappan will be leaving the BOMBA Board of Directors after many years as our Girl's Houseleague Convener.  Anne will continue to help with our programs during the upcoming season but we will miss her hard work and the leadership that has made our Girls' Houseleague program one of the best in the area. Thank you Anne!

Police Background Checks:

In order to comply with the policies and practices that have been developed by the Optimist Club of Byron concerning the operation of their Youth Sports Programs, and to conform with the policies and practices of the other Sport Associations which operate under their umbrella, the Byron Optimist Minor Baseball Association will again require that all those wishing to involve themselves in the operation of our baseball programs obtain either a new "Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening" or submit a current "Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening" to the Byron Optimist Minor Baseball Association Executive.
This will include coaches, assistant coaches and/or managers, and/or others in a position of authority who are involved in the normal operation of the team.  Further information can be obtained from conveners or the registrar   The cost of these checks will be covered by the Baseball Association.
